Plaque Psoriasis Market Outlook

Thelansis’s “Plaque Psoriasis Market Outlook, Epidemiology, Competitive Landscape, and Market Forecast Report – 2023 To 2033" covers disease overview, epidemiology, drug utilization, prescription share analysis, competitive landscape, clinical practice, regulatory landscape, patient share, market uptake, market forecast, and key market insights under the potential Plaque Psoriasis treatment modalities options for eight major markets (USA, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, UK, Japan, and China).

Plaque Psoriasis Overview

Psoriasis, an immune-mediated inflammatory disease affecting skin and joints, is widely recognized as the most prevalent and often presents abnormalities in other bodily systems. The most common variant of psoriasis, known as plaque psoriasis (or psoriasis vulgaris), accounts for 80-90% of all cases. It is characterized by well-defined, erythematous, scaly plaques that frequently appear on specific areas like the elbows, knees, scalp, and the region between the buttocks. These plaques can vary in size, and patients may exhibit a localized condition with only a few lesions or a more generalized manifestation. Notably, the lesions are often symmetrically distributed, and about 80% of plaque psoriasis cases fall into the mild to moderate category, involving less than 10% of the body surface area. The etiology of psoriasis is multifactorial, with genetic predisposition being a significant factor. Additionally, various triggers, including trauma, infections, drugs, metabolic factors, stress, alcohol consumption, smoking, and sunlight exposure, can exacerbate the condition. Systemic drugs used to manage psoriasis encompass acitretin, methotrexate, cyclosporine, tacrolimus, hydroxyurea, 6-thioguanine, mycophenolate, fumaric acid esters, apremilast, and biologic agents. It's crucial to differentiate psoriasis from conditions like tinea corporis (dermatophyte fungal infection) and eczema, as they can occasionally coexist in the same patients. Psoriasis affects over 8 million individuals in the United States. Around 30 percent of those diagnosed with psoriasis also develop psoriatic arthritis. While psoriasis can manifest at any age, it typically exhibits two distinct onset peaks.

  • The initial peak occurs between 20 and 30, and the second typically appears between 50 and 60.
