Tiratricol is a T3 analogue that can enter cells independently of MCT8 and has been shown to reduce circulating T3 and improve several manifestations of peripheral thyrotoxicosis. However, evidence that treatment can reverse established neurological impairment remains limited, making early diagnosis and intervention particularly important. Ongoing research is therefore focused on optimizing transporter-independent thyroid-hormone signaling and determining whether earlier treatment can improve neurodevelopmental outcomes.
